Self-Care Routine

Modern life can be hectic and draining. That’s why it’s important to establish a self-care routine! Take the time to focus on yourself and relax. Here are a few tips that will help you start practicing self-care.

#1 Eat Healthy

It’s tempting to work through lunchtime and eat your midday meal in front of a computer or quickly eat dinner while scrolling through social media. Try to enjoy a healthy meal, uninterrupted. Without distractions, you can more mindfully appreciate your meal.

#2 Track Accomplishments

At the end of the day, take a few minutes to write down everything you’ve accomplished. This will help you recognize all the productive and positive things you’ve participated in that day. Take time to reflect on this list and reward yourself. This could be a mental pat on the back, a tasty treat, or something else that sparks joy.

#3 Express Gratitude

It’s also a good idea to take note of what you’re grateful for. In a journal, list these things. Nothing is too small or too big. Refer to this list during difficult times to remind yourself of the positives.

#4 Create a Cozy Space

Everyone needs their own Fortress of Solitude – a place where you can relax and regroup. Take note of where you can create that cozy space in your home. Is your bedroom setup in a way that helps you unwind? Add a few candles, extra throw pillows, or maybe artwork and photographs to make it a warm and inviting space.

#5 Unplug

It’s easy to spend your free time scrolling through social media. Did you know exposing your eyes to a screen right before bed can actually prevent you from getting the deep and restful sleep you need? Be sure to unplug from electronics at least one hour before you go to bed to ensure a good night’s sleep. Take this time to tidy up, or read a book to relax yourself and prepare for the next day.
